The Love and Respect Experience By Dr. Emerson Eggrichs

My complimentary book to review for Thomas Nelson Publishers The Love & Respect Experience is one that my husband and I together will enjoy for many years to come. It is a couple's devotional book that is especially written so the husband will enjoy it as much as his wife even though men are usually not as keen on doing devotions with their wife as the wife who loves the idea. It is written by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs who is very skillful at writing a devotion that both men and women will benefit from and grow in the Lord together. It is not a book to bring a couple together in a romantic way but rather a way for them to build their marriage spiritually. The devotions allow them to grow closer to The Lord. They have scripture, insights, prayers and action points. The content is wonderful as it guides each spouse to a greater appreciation of their unique gifts and talents while adding patience for their shortcomings as you see this special person God chose for you to spend your life loving. I don't usually say much or anything about the cover of a book, but I would be remiss it I didn't comment on the beautiful leatherlike cover that is both masculine and appealing and easier to read. The cover also lends its self to making a lovely gift. Across the board this book scored high in my opinion.

HAS GOD SPOKEN? by HANK HANEGRAAFF

I am always excited when I receive my complimentary copy of a book from Thomas Nelson Publishers for my review. This month was no exception when I received HAS GOD SPOKEN BY HANK HANEGRAAFF. You probably remember the author as the host of Bible Answer Man. He gives us lots of examples of proof of the Bible's divine inspiration. The Bible knowledge of Mr. Hanegraaff is awesome to say the least and he offers scripture along with his research and proof of The Bible story. My personal favorite is the proof of who Melchizedek is in the book of Hebrews. I also really enjoyed the proof of the pool of Siloam. The steps were found during construction to repair a large water pipe south of Jerusalem's Temple Mount. Archaeologists have given us the proof of many Bible stories and so has the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. It is hard to put this book down when you start reading it and I think it would make an excellent gift for the unbeliever friend that needs proof of God's existance and the Bibles authority. I promise you will not be disappointed in this books ability to provide proof of the accuracy of the scriptures.

STAINED GLASS HEARTS BY PATSY CLAIRMONT

Thomas Nelson Publishers have once again blessed me by sending a complimentary copy of a book to review. The latest book I have to review is STAINED GLASS HEART by Patsy Clairmont. Patsy has the gift of encouragment as she writes this new book comparing our fragile and often broken hearts to the beauty of stained glass. he gives us examples of her own broken moments and how God reached down to repair her heart and make it into something beautiful from the broken pieces. Patsy is both a best selling author and Women of Faith Speaker. She writes just the wasandy she speaks as she encourages thousands of women at Women of Life conferences through out the country. This 192 page book is devided into 13 chapters of of stories of renewal, scriptures, action ideas that include web sites and places of interest to help us on our journey. The comparison of our hearts to stained glass windows is a stroke of genius as we think of every broken and jagged piece of our broken hearts and see the beautiful glass works from a distance as artists make mosaics of broken bits of colored stones and glass. Our artist is Jesus and he is the ultimate healer of our broken hearts when we accept Him into our hearts and allow Him to enlarge our hearts to the beauty that comes from having a servant's heart. This book is thought provoking and has dozens of scriptures and tips to help us as we live our lives sparkling as a stained glass window.

GOD'S PROMISES for the AMERICAN PATRIOT BY Dr. Richard G. Lee

I appreciate Thomas Nelson Publishers for sending me a complimentary copy of GOD'S PROMISES for the AMERICAN PATRIOT BY Dr. Richard G. Lee and Jack Countryman. It was a delight to review this book. It started with the lovely cover to this wonderful 195 page gift book. The presentation page is beautiful and it only get better as each page is illustrated and a work of art on its own. If you are not patriotic before reading this book, I feel sure you will be after reading it. Every two pages of this book are a devotion topic that include the history of an american patriot and is followed on the second page with scripture verses that support the short devotion. It was what our country was founded on ONE NATION UNDER GOD. We hope our country will learn from our founding fathers and go back to government the way they planned it. Buy a copy of this book for yourself and one for your church library!

BILLY GRAHAM in Quotes by Franklin Graham with Donna Lee Toney

I enjoy the complimentary books sent to me by Thomas Nelson Publishers so when Billy Graham in Quotes by Franklin Graham with Donna Lee Toney arrived in the mail I was ecstatic. Dr. Graham is a spirital giant and I hang on to every quote he has or will in the future quote. The cover is probably the only downside to this book. It is a black and white paperback with an earlier picture of Dr. Graham on it. I expect to use this book over and over again and would have liked it to be in hardback.

I won't be saying anything negative about this book again because I really enjoyed it and have read it over and over again. The quotes are divided in chapters with themes such as Billy Graham on Abortion, Billy Graham on Age, Billy Graham on Comfort, Billy Graham on God's Will, Billy Graham on the Gospel, Billy Graham on Marriage for just a few topics covered in this remarkable book. Scripture starts out each topic as you might expect. Dr. Graham has had quite an impact on my life, as a senior citizen now I can't remember a time when I wasn't reading one of his books or watching a Billy Graham crusade. My husband and I attended a class at the Cove, Billy Graham's Training Institute and had the honor of seeing him there. This is a must read for Christians who strive to have a daily walk with The Lord and need reminders daily. This book is both inspirational and informative. I hope this book is a best seller and later comes out in hardback.

BE THE PEOPLE by Carol M. Swain, PhD

I was thinking seriously about the issues that Dr. Carol M. Swain, PHD wrote about in her timely book BE THE PEOPLE when Thomas Nelson Publishers sent me a complimentary book to review. Dr. Swain is an expert dealing with the complex issues our country and society are dealing with today. Her book is timely and right on. Her appropriate subtitle is A Call to Reclaim America's Faith and Promise. If our forefathers were reading this book they would be shouting Amen, Amen, Amen! I particularly am saddened by the decline of families in America today and Dr. Swain hits it head on with the scriptures and leaves no doubt in the reader's mind as to how God intended the family to live. The author acknowledges the risk she is taking in writing this book, but she believes that America is worth restoring. She reveals shocking information about the Girl Scouts of America and The Boy Scouts of America. If you are an older person it will not be the organizations that you remember belonging to as a youth. Dr. Swain is a woman of color and she addresses some of the problems that African Americans face due to the encouragement of elitist black leaders for them to see themselves as victims rather than the resilient people that have overcome enormous odds. Dr. Swain wrote this book because she loves American and the insight she gives us is priceless. This is a book for people who want to see America reclaim our power and promise.

Money Secrets of the Amish by Lorilee Craker

I was delighted to receive another complimentary book by Thomas Nelson Publishers to review. The book Money Secrets of the Amish by Lorilee Craker was one of the most helpful books I have read in a long time. The subtitle of Finding True Abundance in Simplicity, Sharing, and Saving was right on and I have made many changes in my spending habits since reading it. I was amazed that the Amish are able to save so much of their earnings by simply living a humble lifestyle and not wasting anything. The story of Amos and Fern Miller and their 14 children was in deed an inspiration. The 45 year old farmer has managed to bank $400,000 over the course of twenty years while renting a farm and raising fourteen children and remarkably none of them feel deprived and the children have a calm and peace about them because they are a happy family with loving parents and a strong belief system. This has been passed on to them for generations and it really works. We are a generation that lives in excess while the Amish repair things and dressed are worn by 7 different children before they wear out. The Amish fix what is broken, patch what is torn, and repair what is repairable. There are tips for saving money throughout the book and as you compare our spending habits with the Amish, you understand why they are able to save and most of our generation is drowning in debt. We fritter away money and become stressed while they save money and have peace and happiness. I highly recommend this book to anyone and will likely be buying two additional copies for our children. We can learn a lot from the Amish. Thanks Thomas Nelson for a fantastic book!

Women of Faith WORSHIP rejoice

I am a real fan of the Women of Faith so when I was sent a complimentary CD to review for Thomas Nelson Publishers I was thrilled. I have been to a few Women of Faith retreats and I love them. The music on this CD included Beautiful Redeemer, So Good, Forever Reign, Come As You Are, Hosanna, Our God, Glory To God, You Brought The Sunshine, Greatness of Our God, and Great is Thy Faithfulness. The songs are beautiful and after listening to the CD in my computer for hours, I have found that I stop typing sometimes to raise my hands in worship to Our Father. If you are doing your devotions, or working you will find yourself feeling so thankful and worshipful. It you are at a Women of Faith conference be sure to buy the CD or find one at your nearest Christian Bookstore so you can worship at home with the worship team. I love the verse on the back of the CD Let us rerejoice and be glad today! Psalm 118:24 You will definitely be in the mood to worship as you listen to this inspiring CD I highly recommend it!

THE BOOK THAT MADE YOUR WORLD by Vishal Mangalwadi

The Book That Made Your World by Vishal Mangalwadi is a complimentary book sent to me by Thomas Nelson Publishers to read and review. This book shows in great detail how the Bible changed the Western Civilization. This book is not for casual reading. It is filled with so much information and everything is backed up by many pages of notes in the back. The author has done much for the poor in India and his first book is used as a text book in many universities. Many humanatarian honors have been bestowed on him. The many comparisons on how the Bible has influenced our lives in the West compared to other civilizations in the East is startling. One interesting thought is that in Hollywood they are producing a whole genre of movies inspired by the idea that the human problem is not the conflict of good vs. evil, but instead is humanity vs. machines. An example is Matrix trilogy, the Terminator series and several episodes of Star Trek. There is so much information and learning in this book that it is really for the more educated reader and very serious Bible students, not for your average reader. I think most of the pages were new information to me and I was just overwhelmed by it all. I do applaud Thomas Nelson for publishing a book that if read and absorbed will show the reader how the Bible has truly affected every thing we believe and how we think and live our lives according to its words. The Bible is the greatest book ever written and it is easier for me to understand than this book.

MAX ON LIFE by Max Lucado

This is an easy blog to write since Max Lucado is my favorite author and I have read all of his previous books. The complimentary book given to me by the publisher Thomas Nelson Publishers won't spend much time on my bookshelf because it is a book I will reference frequently. This book has questions and answers that give insight to your most important questions. I love the format of the 254 page book that answers 172 most often ask questions. Scripture is given to back up his answers and that is a must for me in accepting anyone's opinion. The qustions and answers are typed, but there are also copies of some of the questions and some of Max's letters answering individual's questions. It adds a nice personal touch to the book. One such handwritten letter came from a 7 year old in the church and in his precious printing he writes "Dear Max, I'm sorry for pulling the fire alarm after 11:30 service. Please forgive me. My parents have punished me but I want to make it right with you. Please let me know what I can do. In Christ's Love, Sammy. The letter from Sammy was in the introduction as Max Lucado illustrates that questions come in all forms from young and old alike, some are easy to answer and some are not easy to answer. Max Lucado also says in the introduction that some of these questions have appeared in earlier books and I am glad he disclosed that in the beginning because if you have read all his books you notice it.

LEAD SERVE LOVE by GregoryE. Lang

I was delighted to get to review this newest complimentary book by Thomas Nelson Publishers LEAD SERVE LOVE by Gregory E. Lang.  I believe that this book with its simplicity of 100 three-word ways to be like Jesus can change your attitude as you read it, I know it changed mine.  This is a lovely gift book with a beautiful cover.  I will no doubt be giving many of my friends this book.  The three word titles to each devotion cover every need we face as we strive to be more like Jesus.  A sample of a few of the hundred devotions and scriptures with the three word titles are :Smile At Everyone, Share With Others, Listen With Understanding, Forgive All Wrongs, Soften Your Heart, Overcome Your Worry, Make A Difference, Accept What Comes and ninety two others.  This book has a short devotion on one side of the page and scriptures to back up the devotion on the page beside it.  I would consider this book to be a devotional and a gift book.

The book starts out with a presentation page and ends with a note from the author that presents himself as being like the rest of us a sinner saved by grace (my word, not his).  This book would lead you to believe that Mr. Lang has a well studied mind toward what we must do in our walk to be more like Jesus.  He is very humble, but I suspect he was lead by The Holy Spirit to write such a powerful book and surely must have the gift of writing  and being able to communicate with others.  The acknowlegments at the end of the book include Mr. Lang's email address.  I never write the authors, but this is one time I feel compelled to communicate my thanks for him writing this life changing book.

JOLT! by Phil Cooke

I had no expectations when I first received the complimentary book JOLT! by Phil Cooke.  The book is published by Thomas Nelson Publishers.  The quality of the book meets the high standards of Thomas Nelson with its beautiful cover and most important its content.  I have in my personal library many motivational and business culture books.  I was not prepared for Phil Cooke's easy read of basic suggestions on how to get the jump on a world that's constantly changing as suggested in his subtitle.  Every example given applies not only to our business life, but also our personal lives.  I could not put the book down as I read chapters such as Start at the Finish Line, Jolt Your Priorities,Better Choices, Borders and my personal favorite The Power of Focus to name a few.
The Power of Focus looked at multitasking and the impact it has on mistakes and cost of fixing those mistakes.  The chapter on Focus also dealt with our sleep habits and the old saying sleep on it.  It points out how important REM sleep is and power of our dreams in helping us sort out our problems.
The chapters end in questions and review and the book points out how important asking the right questions of ourselves and our behavior.  The book has experiences that Mr. Cooke has had that demonstrate the benefit of his suggestions.  It is a must read for everyone that wants to succeed in business and life.

The Final Summit by Andy Andrews

The Final Summit by Andy Andrews was a complimentary book sent to me by Thomas Nelson Publishers.  I have never received or read a book by Thomas Nelson Publishers that I did not throughly enjoy.  This book has me thinking about it all the time.  It was the hardest book I have ever had to review, but I received so much by its spiritual content that I believe it is a life changing book.  This book reminded me a lot of C.S. Lewis style of writing.  Everything in the book and David Ponder's life has a meaning to it.  David Ponder is the main character and the books starts just after he loses his wife of many years.  David is seventy four years old and a very successful businessman for the second time.  He lost everything once, but quickly gained it all back after an encounter with Archangel Gabriel as he guides him through Seven Decisions for Success with the help of other travelers such as Ann Frank ,Col Chamberlain and Abraham Lincoln just to name a few.

David Ponder is in deep depression at the loss of his wife and Gabriel appears again and off to heaven they go again so that David can lead the Travelers Summit.  The attendees of the the summit help find the answer that they must come up with the solution as to what must happen to save humanity.  The answer must be two words and they have five chances to come up with the right answer as time runs short for the Final Summit.  I hesitate to give too much away or to give you my personal impressions of the meaning so I will leave that up to you as you journey with the travelers.

THE FIGHT OF OUR LIVES BY William J. Bennett & Seth Leibsohn

I received this complimentary book from Thomas Nelson Publishers.  The title is THE FIGHT OF OUR LIVES by William J. Bennett and Seth Liebsohn.  I had no idea as I started reading this book the impact it would have on me and the desire to warn others about the radical Islam treat to our very lives.  Radical Islam is our enemy and they are bent on destroying us.  This could be the most important book you will ever read.  It is well written so we can all understand it and it is backed up by facts at the end of the book and doesn't just consist of just the highly respected and knowledgable authors.
We are warned of their (radical Islam) mission to fly their flag over the white house.  Islamic law-Sharia- has a penal code encouraging"flogging, amputation, and execution by stoning or hanging for a range of social and political offenses."  Speech is restricted and, when opposed to the state, curtailed and violently punished.  Read the book to learn of many more Sharia restrictions.  This is a frightening book to read and yet necessary to protect our country from this enemy.  When will the United States citizens finally understand that these terrorist hate us and want to destroy us.  This book can help people to understand the threat and react in a way to lesson the threat.  This book is not long, it has only 186 pages, but the content is compelling and insightful.  Don't just read this hardback book, but pass it along to others so the warning can be spread.

A Conversation with GOD for Women by MARCIA FORD

I have really enjoyed reading my complimentary book from Thomas Nelson Publishers.  A Conversation with  GOD for Women by Marcia Ford.  The subtitle If You Could Ask God Any Question, What Would It Be? was a good subtitle, however it doesn't let you know that the questions you would ask are exactly the questions that Marcia Ford includes in her book.  This lovely book even has beautiful pages with lots of questions and answers from God.  The answers are written in the first person so you feel like God is truly talking with you and answering your questions.  Each topic comes with bibical references so you can exlpore the truth for yourself, that is very important to me.  Scripture backup is a requirement to me because the Bible is our try authority and if the author can't back it up with scripture then I am not interested in reading the book.  Fifty five questions are answered in this book as you actually get the feeling that you are truly conversing with our Father in heaven.  This is not one of those books you will read and then put on the bookshelf.  You will read it over and over and share it with your friends to get their perspective to the answers.  It is both a book of comfort and understanding of the scriptures.  The cover is beautiful and if I had any complaint it would be that it is paperback instead of hard cover.  Put this book on your must read list.

Regret Free Parenting by Catherine Hickem, LCSW

This may be one of the best parenting books I have read in many years.  I received my complimentary copy of Regret Free Parenting by Catherine Hickem, LCSW last Friday and have read and reread it several times.  I like the subtitle Raise Good Kids and Know You're Doing it Right.  Ms Hickem is the founder of Intentional Moms  a national not-for-profit organization that provides information, support and insights on motherhood.  Unconditional love is what our children need most and the author helps us to convey to our children with her help in having us ask ourselves the right questions about our parenting skills and past experiences as a child ourselves.  Our own behavior in parenting needs to be in the best interest of our children.  This book is good for us individually and privately, but also as a Bible study with other moms with like desires to raise great kids.  A great gift for a new mother and a great reference book for any mother.  Follow the faith points in the book and make your mothering more powerful and rewarding.

PUJOLS More Than A Game by Scott Lamb and Tim Ellsworth

I received my complimentary copy of PUJOLS from Thomas Nelson Publishers with some anxiety because I am not a sports fan.  I should not have worried about reviewing this book because I enjoyed every word.  I found that this remarkable man and athelete who cares much more about Jesus and living for Him than he cares about baseball.  Reading this story about a man and his wife totally sold out to The Lord was an inspiration.  PUJOLS says he doesn't want to be remembered as a great baseball player.  He wants to be remembered as a great guy that loved The Lord, loved serving his community, and who gave back.  There is lots of scripture through out the book and it gives you many examples of what God expects of His children and how He blessed them.  I had a hard time putting it down and I am certain that it would be even more enjoyable if you are a baseball fan.  I think this would be an excellent tool to help a young man see his need for giving his life to Jesus.  The PUJOLS oldest daughter has downs syndrome and the foundation they have formed for families with disabled children is a story in its self.  They tirelessly give of themselves and their resources to help others and often travel to foreign countries to aid and deliver the gospel message.  This is definitely a must read for sports fans and anyone needing a spiritual uplifting read.

The Beginning Reader's BIBLE Thomas Nelson Publishers

It is with genuine excitement that I am reviewing the Complimentary book sent to me by Thomas Nelson Publishers.  The Beginning Reader's BIBLE Illustrated by Marijke ten Cate far exceeded my expectations.  This large hardback book not only has the most beautiful illustrations I have ever seen in a children's Bible, but it is filled with all the major Bible studies from Genesis to Revelations.  There are many features to the book like Do God's Word where they list an idea or craft to go along with the Bible story.  There is also a section after the story that says Pray God's Word with a memory verse that is a prayer and a section on some pages intitled Remember God' Word with a scripture to memorize.

The end of the book has a section called Resources to Guide Your Children that has The Ten Commandments, Twenty Third Psalm, Books of the Bible and many more resources.  There are aslo Charts to keep in the back to keep track of stories read and verses memorized.  The last page is the most important page as it has the Prayer of Salvation.

If you have a special young reader in your family this book is a must buy.

I Review Books

I created this blog so I could review books.  I owned bookstores for many years.  I had a Christian Bookstore and also a bookstore in the Lexington Center.  I have been a judge for the Gold Medallion Awards for Christian books.  I like all types of books including best sellers and inspirational books.  I hope this blog will help people read more and better books.
